Meet Jan.
Welcome to the woods, in all its beauty. Just a little way off the beaten path, but well worth the trip, our cozy shop overlooks Carsley Brook. Come on in! Sit and relax near the windows, where you can watch the stream, and listen as it sings while you're knitting or relaxing with your favorite quilt project. It’s peaceful and inviting here, and just wait ‘til you see the yarns and quilt fabrics! Oh my goodness… You're in for a treat!
Hello, I’m Jan Friend. I’ve been knitting, quilting, and teaching all my life. I come from a long line of needlewomen and I have learned from the best. My mother and grandmother made lovely quilts and it wasn’t long before I followed them into the sewing room. The scrap basket was my play yard and I made my first doll quilt at age eight. After that I was well on my way to quilting and learning every kind of needle art they could teach me. When I had questions they didn’t know the answers to, their friends showed me what they knew - and then there were all those classes over the years!

Visit the shop!
Enough about me. Come on in and sit down, relax awhile. Let your eyes feast on all the colors. Touch the wonderful fibers and smell the smell of real wool yarns. Ahhh! Take in a big breath…let it out slowly, and start your next knitting project.
After a while, stand up for a stretch break (you DO take stretch breaks, don't you?). Admire the lovely New England-theme 100% cotton fabrics, our "Memere's Attic" collection of vintage quilting cottons, and the natural batting and backings that will complete your quilts to heirloom quality. Take your time picking your colors. If you need help we're here for you, with simple advice ...
... or with classes to get you well on your way. We're teaching needle arts all over New England this year, so check with your local quilt shop and if they haven’t booked us yet, have them give me a call at 207-583-2654.
I'm working very hard to bring you the best of everything. Husband Al and I travel every chance we get to bring you the finest goods, with a renewed emphasis on natural fibers, high quality, and northern New England products. We have a good variety of books and patterns to make your play novel and exciting; notions, gifts and gadgets to help make it easy and fun. I'd love to make you up a knitter’s or quilter's gift bag or basket for the holidays or any occasion (Hint, hint to the guys out there!).
Dream!
I entirely believe you have to follow your dreams, and that’s just what I'm doing here at 'Naturally Fuzzy Yarns and Cottage Quilts.' I have dabbled in all the needle arts, and many other crafts, as well as cake decorating and dried flower arrangements. But I've always come home to quilting and knitting. They never seem to die out, and I'm hoping that younger generations will keep the needle arts alive in the years to come. Long after the novelty crafts go out of style, knitting and quilting will be there to come home to, for relaxation and the pure joy of fibers, stitches, and fine handwork that generations have and will enjoy for centuries to come.
Naturally Fuzzy is right on Zakelo Road, just off Rte 35 south of Harrison village. See web site www.naturallyfuzzy.com or just follow the DOT signs to the door. Check her out during business hours, or if her regular hours don’t work for you, Jan lives right next door. Call and she’ll meet you at the shop any time!
